Frequently asked questions
Who can participate?
The hackathon is open to college students from SJSU, Foothill, and the broader community. Teams can bring together students from different backgrounds and experience levels.
What does it cost to attend?
The event is free to attend. Food, mentorship, workshops, and the core hackathon experience are provided for registered participants.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. The event welcomes designers, researchers, storytellers, organizers, and builders of all experience levels. Teams benefit from a mix of technical and non-technical skills.
What should I build?
Choose one of the five challenge tracks and develop an AI-enabled idea that responds to a real community need. Projects should center sustainability, trust, privacy, and measurable impact.
Can I participate without a team?
Yes! You can participate on your own and you will be added to a team. Organizers will match you with other participants, so you can arrive with an idea, a skill, or simply curiosity.
Who are the judges?
Our judges come from industry partners including AWS, Google, IBM, NCBAA, MomentumAI, and TI. You can see the full list on the Judging page.
When and where is check-in?
Participant check-in is at SPX (Spartan Complex) on Friday, October 23, from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM. Late check-in is available from 12:00–1:00 PM and closes promptly at 1:00 PM. Seats may be released after 12:30 PM for participants who have not arrived.
What time should I check in based on my registration status?
If you received a confirmation email, please check in by 10:00 AM. If you are waitlisted, please show up by 11:00 AM, and spots will be filled as they open. If you are not waitlisted, did not receive a confirmation email, and are still interested in attending, please arrive by 11:30 AM.
Can I form my own team?
Yes. Teams can include up to five people. Make sure all team members select the same company and check in together so you can be grouped correctly.
Do I have to stay overnight?
No. Overnight attendance is optional. Gym accommodations are available, but you should bring your own sleeping bag and personal items. If you leave after dinner, return by 8:00 AM the next morning.
What should high school participants know?
High school students must complete the required waiver and submit it through the Google Form before arriving. The high school track, featuring IBM and Adobe, takes place Saturday, October 24.
What food and drinks are provided?
Meals are provided throughout the event. You may bring snacks for dietary needs, and everyone should bring a refillable water bottle.
What are the parking options?
Campus parking is $12 per day. Guests staying overnight need a $15 overnight permit plus any day permits. SJSU students with a parking permit do not need day permits, but do need an overnight permit. SJSU students should bring their Tower Cards; everyone else should bring an ID.
